Start your Materuni Waterfalls experience with a convenient pick-up from your hotel in Moshi Town or Arusha, and then drive to Materuni Village with your English-speaking guide. Materuni village is located just 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) from Moshi Town and is still an authentic tribal village home to the Chagga tribe and the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park.Follow your local guide to the waterfalls, on a 40-minute walk. On the way, listen to the culture of the Chagga, and learn about village life in this part of Tanzania and the surrounding fauna and flora with your guide. Take in the breathtaking views and get sight of the summit of Kilimanjaro.
When you reach the waterfalls, marvel at cascades that are more than 80 meters (262 feet) high. Take advantage of the inviting pool at the bottom of the waterfall and take a refreshing dip. Don't forget your swimwear! After you return back to Materuni village experience a traditional Chagga lunch and have the opportunity to taste the local banana beer.
Continue your Kilimanjaro day tour with a coffee experience. Learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted, and further processed. Try grinding the coffee yourself accompanied by Chagga songs and dances.
