Description - What to expect
Our unforgettable Golden Circle Tour begins with a fast and efficient pick-up service from a wide selection of downtown Reykjavík locations. Once everyone is aboard, we leave the city behind and set off to discover some of the most iconic natural and cultural landmarks in southwest Iceland.Þingvellir National Park
The first stop on the Golden Circle Tour is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with both geological and historical importance. Here, visitors can witness the dramatic meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in the impressive Almannagjá gorge, part of the famous Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
Þingvellir is also the birthplace of Iceland’s national identity. It was here that the world’s oldest continuous parliament, the Alþingi, was established in 930 AD. For centuries, Viking chieftains and leaders gathered at this very spot to shape the laws and governance of Iceland. Today, Þingvellir remains a place of profound cultural significance for Icelanders.
The park also features Lake Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest natural lake, and the world-renowned Silfra Fissure, where divers and snorkelers can explore crystal-clear waters between the continents.
Geysir Geothermal Area
Next, the Golden Circle Tour takes you to the spectacular Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur Valley. This bubbling geothermal field is named after the Great Geysir, the first geyser ever recorded in print. In fact, the English word “geyser” originates from this very site.
Although the Great Geysir is now mostly dormant, nearby Strokkur puts on a reliable show. Erupting every 5–10 minutes, Strokkur blasts hot water and steam up to 20 meters (65 feet) into the air—and sometimes as high as 40 meters (130 feet). It’s a thrilling natural display that never fails to impress.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Our journey continues to Gullfoss, the famous “Golden Falls” and one of Iceland’s most breathtaking waterfalls. Fed by the glacial waters of the Hvítá River, Gullfoss plunges a total of 32 meters into a rugged canyon.
In summer, the flow of water can reach an astonishing 140 cubic meters per second, making it one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. On sunny days, the mist often creates dazzling rainbows, adding even more magic to this natural wonder. The name “Golden Falls” comes from the shimmering effect created by the sunlight reflecting off the water and minerals in the riverbed.
Kerið Volcanic Crater
The final stop on the Golden Circle Tour is the striking Kerið volcanic crater. Formed around 6,500 years ago, Kerið is now filled with a vivid blue-green lake surrounded by red volcanic rock and lush vegetation, creating a unique color contrast. Visitors can walk along the crater’s rim for panoramic views or descend to the water’s edge for a closer look.
Please note: On departures at 12:00 pm or later, we will not be stopping at Kerið Crater Lake.
