Description - What to expect

Start your Amethyst Mine tour with a convenient pick-up from your hotel and head to the city of Luosto located 115 km away from Rovaniemi. The city nests underneath impressive mountains formed 20 million years ago, and they are covered with lush forests. In this fantastic natural setting, explore the ancient amethyst mine and learn everything about the region and what makes it so unique.

Climb up the mountain and meet your expert guide to learn about the history of this amazing place and try your luck by digging in search of your amethyst gemstone, which you can take with you provided it can fit inside your fist. End your day with a campfire BBQ or try a Lappish reindeer meat sandwich and blueberry juice before you head back for your return journey to Rovaniemi.

During the winter and spring seasons you will be provided with special equipment and a snow-cat will lift you on the hill. During the midwinter time, when a veil of darkness covers Lapland, you may even see the Northern Lights in the middle of the day.

Before and after your search for the amethyst with the support of your professional guides, you can have a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-covered Lappish landscapes also because the mine is located on the border of a beautiful Pyha-Luosto National Park.
