Description - What to expect

Serengeti safari itinerary

◾ Day 1: Arusha/Serengeti National Park (335km – 5 hours)
Start your Serengeti safari with a convenient pick-up from Arusha at 8.00 am and then drive to the Great Serengeti National Park (14,763 sq km or 5,700 sq miles) followed by a picnic lunch. Enjoy a game drive en route to the campsite.

Serengeti National Park is home to a large number of lions, leopards, elephants, Cheetah, Buffalos, Zebras, Wildebeest, Eland, Wild dogs, Gazelles, Crocs, and more. The Park is abundant with birds including the Eurasia migrants. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Seronera Camp Site.

◾ Day 2: Full-Day Serengeti Safari
Today you will enjoy two game drives, one in the morning after breakfast and one in the afternoon. Grasp the opportunity to capture with your camera some amazing photos of the African Savana and see some of the most representative wild animals in their natural environment. Your driver/guide will take you to spots that are most likely to spot the big five in the bush.

Serengeti means "endless plains" in the Maasai language and this is exactly the natural scene you will encounter during the whole day. Look out for the big carnivores leopard, lion, hyena, and cheetah.

Serengeti Park is normally the scene of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra that occurs between the Kenyan Mara and the Serengeti and involves millions of animals with spectacular views. The place is also full of bird species including eagles, ducks, geese, egrets, vultures, secretary birds, ibis, storks, herons, kites, pelicans, cranes, and guinea fowl.

You will have all meals and Overnight at Serengeti Seronera Camp Site.

◾ Day 3: Serengeti National Park-Ngorongoro Crater Rim
Start your day with an early morning game drive in Serengeti and be back at the campsite at 9.00 for breakfast. Then check out and drive with lunch and game viewing en route to Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Ngorongoro Crater is famous as the largest unbroken caldera in the world, covering an area of 260 kilometers and with a depth of 610 meters.

The crater provides a protected habitat for thousands of mammals and birds. The entire day is spent on the crater floor viewing lions, hyenas, wildebeest, zebra, black rhinoceros, and many species of small antelopes. In fact, Ngorongoro Crater is one of the few places in Africa where you stand a very good chance of seeing the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant) in the course of a game-drive.

The local Maasai have permission to graze their cattle on the Crater floor, and it is not unusual to see Maasai cattle and buffalo grazing together with lions mere meters away. There are around 1000 lions in the Crater, approximately 20 black rhinos, and the spectacular Lerai Forest is one of the best places in Africa to spot leopards. Dinner and Overnight at Ngorongoro Simba A Campsite.

◾ Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Floor - Arusha.
Wake up early morning for breakfast and then drive once again to Ngorongoro Crater and descend into the Crater floor for your last game drive. Enjoy spectacular views and encounter the Big Five, Rhino Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, and Elephant living in this wonderful caldera. Break for lunch at Ngoitoktok Spring Picnic Site.

After lunch, ascend the crater and drive to Arusha where your Serengeti safari comes to an end.

About the area

Serengeti National Park, in northern Tanzania, is known for its massive annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Seeking new pastures, the herds move north from their breeding grounds in the grassy southern plains. Many cross the marshy western corridor’s crocodile-infested Grumeti River. Others veer northeast to the Lobo Hills, home to black eagles. Black rhinos inhabit the granite outcrops of the Moru Kopjes.
