Description - What to expect

Your Mount Longonot hike starts with an early pick-up from your hotel, leaving behind the busy city and heading toward the Mt Longonot National Park, through the Kikuyu lush green highlands, and then on the eastern escarpment of the Great African Rift Valley. Stop at a vantage point to gaze out over the rift valley floor, and learn about its geology from your guide. Formed about five million years ago, the rift is a unique formation that runs through Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia to the Red Sea. The whole area is full of volcanic activity, including bubbling geysers, hot springs, and lakes.

Drop into the rift valley and arrive at Mount Longonot National Park for your hike up to the crater. The trek requires a good standard of fitness, and you will climb through the gulleys that dot the sides of this mountain. You can make some rest stops at the designated places on the trek. You will get to the rim of the crater and look into the awesome crater below. If you have the strength for it, you can take a walk around the rim itself.

Make your way back down the mountain, then travel to Lake Naivasha for a delicious lunch by the water at the Marina Camp. You’ll have the opportunity for a final sightseeing experience on the lake itself. The Mount Longonot Hike includes an hour-long boat ride around Lake Naivasha. Watch spectacular birds such as the African fish eagle that swoops into the water to catch fish, and look out for hippos wallowing in the shallows.

Depart Lake Naivasha driving through the lush Kikuyu highlands and arrive back in Nairobi at around 5:30 pm.
