Description - What to expect

Start your Tivoli day trip from Rome to experience the stunning town full of majestic villas. The entire town is worthy of a visit on its own, with all its splendor, but you will focus on the two major attractions this town has to offer, the two world-famous villas. The Tivoli day trip starts in the morning from the centrally located meeting point, where you can sit comfortably on board the fully equipped coach bus to take you to Tivoli in approximately 1 hour.

Upon arrival, you will be given an audio receiver with earphones, that way you won’t miss any information explained by the professional guide. Your guide will lead you to the first villa, Hadrian’s Villa, also called Villa Adriana. It is here that Emperor Hadrian built his majestic villa in the 2nd century AD: a luxurious country retreat where he retired and spent his final years.

The vast complex includes more than 30 buildings, water features, and former thermal stations and covers an area larger than a square kilometer, which gives a nice idea of the purpose of this place: to show the emperor's grandeur, richness, and enormous power. Be prepared to be amazed as Emperor Hadrian had asked for recreations of the monuments that had left an impression on him during his travels.

After visiting Villa Hadrian, you will follow your guide to Villa d'Este, another incredible masterpiece of architecture. In the 16th century, much of the remaining marble and statues were removed from Hadrian's Villa by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este, to build his own villa nearby, Villa d'Este, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The villa, with many frescoes on the inside, is surrounded by a unique garden, with a complex pool system, fountains, waterfalls and more. You will be speechless as you admire the impeccable garden of this villa and its innumerable waterfalls and fountains. What's even more special about this system of fountains is the incredible technical masterpiece at work.

It runs entirely by the force of gravity, without pumps. Villa d’Este sits on a hill overlooking Hadrian’s Villa. When visiting this villa, you can clearly see that the Cardinal had reached his goal of surpassing the ancient Roman construction. Don’t miss the opportunity to see these two impressive villas with skip-the-line tickets and a professional guide!
